Update: Super excited to see that our blog contribution was the number one most read LSE EUROPP blog post in 2018!
The Italian election campaign has largely revolved around concerns about immigration and security. Indeed, the focus of public debate has gradually veered – or skillfully been steered – towards the nexus between migration, crime and security. Together with Donato di Carlo and Giulia Saudelli, I wrote a short piece on the LSE EUROPP blog, drawing on data from the Italian National Institute of Statistics. I also built a simply shiny app to to illustrate that crime rates across all Italian regions and the share of crimes committed by foreigners have both fallen significantly over the last decade.
I recently replicated the visualisation because I was looking for an application of the powerful and intuitive rbokeh
package.
